Calculator guide

Estimate annual percentage rate including upfront finance charges. Use the explicitly labelled inputs below; rates, dimensions, and costs are assumptions, not live quotes.

Formula or method

Solve the monthly rate r for which the present value of equal monthly payments equals amount financed minus upfront fees: net proceeds = payment × (1 − (1+r)^−months) ÷ r. The tool reports 12 × r × 100 as estimated APR. It assumes monthly timing and is not a regulatory APR disclosure.

How to use this calculator

  1. Set Amount Financed. The interface starts with 10000; replace it with the value for your scenario.
  2. Set Monthly Payment. The interface starts with 320; replace it with the value for your scenario.
  3. Set Number of Payments (months). The interface starts with 36; replace it with the value for your scenario.
  4. Set Upfront Fees. The interface starts with 200; replace it with the value for your scenario.
  5. Compare the result with the worked example, then vary one assumption at a time so you can see what changes.

Worked example

Enter Amount Financed = 10000; Monthly Payment = 320; Number of Payments = 36 months; Upfront Fees = 200. With those assumptions, the calculator gives Estimated APR: 10.82%; Total of Payments: $11,520.00; Finance Charges: $1,720.00. These outputs are calculated from the same implementation as the interactive tool.

Understanding the result

In this example, Estimated APR is 10.82%. Total of Payments is $11,520.00. Real-world schedules, fees, and local rules may differ from the assumptions entered in the tool.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Real-world schedules, fees, and local rules may differ from the assumptions entered in the tool.
  • The worked example demonstrates the stated assumptions, not a recommendation about your personal circumstances.

Why might my result differ from another tool?

Compare the other tool's apr calculator method, input units, rounding and assumptions. A matching title does not guarantee that both tools answer the same question.
