Calculator guide

Compare two package prices per serving by entering each package’s serving count. Both package quantities use the same serving unit.

Formula or method

For each package, price per serving = package price ÷ number of servings. Serving counts are not converted to package weight.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter Package A’s price and number of servings.
  2. Enter Package B’s price and number of servings.
  3. Both output prices are dollars per serving. Use serving counts defined the same way for both products.
  4. Check package labels if serving sizes differ; this arithmetic comparison does not recommend a portion size.

Worked example

Package A: $12 for 6 servings = $2 per serving. Package B: $15 for 10 servings = $1.50 per serving. Both outputs are dollars per serving; Package B has the lower entered price per serving.

Understanding the result

Compare servings only when the serving definitions are meaningfully alike. This tool does not evaluate nutrition, ingredients, quality or an appropriate portion size.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Serving is not a mass or volume unit; this calculator cannot convert servings to ounces, pounds or fluid ounces.
  • Serving counts and prices are user-entered and may differ from package-label or checkout values.

Frequently asked questions

Can I compare servings with ounces?

No. A serving is not a fixed mass or volume. Compare two serving counts, or use the separate weight comparison with compatible mass inputs.

Does the lower price per serving mean the food is healthier?

No. This is only an arithmetic price comparison, not nutrition or health advice.

Do the serving sizes need to match?

Use serving counts defined comparably for both packages. The calculator does not normalize for different portion sizes.
