Calculator guide
Estimate annual and monthly income from a portfolio yield. Use the explicitly labelled inputs below; rates, dimensions, and costs are assumptions, not live quotes.
Formula or method
Annual dividend income = portfolio value × dividend yield ÷ 100. Monthly income = annual income ÷ 12; target capital = target monthly income × 12 ÷ yield.
How to use this calculator
- Set Portfolio Value. The interface starts with 100000; replace it with the value for your scenario.
- Set Dividend Yield (%). The interface starts with 4; replace it with the value for your scenario.
- Set Target Monthly Income. The interface starts with 1000; replace it with the value for your scenario.
- Compare the result with the worked example, then vary one assumption at a time so you can see what changes.
Worked example
Enter Portfolio Value = 100000; Dividend Yield = 4 %; Target Monthly Income = 1000. With those assumptions, the calculator gives Annual Dividend Income: $4,000.00; Monthly Dividend Income: $333.33; Portfolio Needed for Target: $300,000.00. These outputs are calculated from the same implementation as the interactive tool.
Understanding the result
In this example, Annual Dividend Income is $4,000.00. Monthly Dividend Income is $333.33. Estimates exclude charges and rules not represented by the inputs. Rates and prices are assumptions; results are not a quote or guaranteed return.
Limitations and assumptions
- Estimates exclude charges and rules not represented by the inputs. Rates and prices are assumptions; results are not a quote or guaranteed return.
- The worked example demonstrates the stated assumptions, not a recommendation about your personal circumstances.
