Calculator guide

Investment Calculator helps you explore the stated finance question. Start with the labelled inputs, then review the method, worked example and limitations before using a result.

Formula or method

For monthly compounding and end-of-month deposits: FV = P(1+r)^n + C((1+r)^n−1)÷r, where r = annual return÷1200 and n = years×12. At zero return, FV = P + C×n.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the starting balance, contribution, expected return and duration.
  2. Compare final balance with contributions; an assumed return is not a forecast.

Worked example

Enter initial balance 10,000, annual return 6%, term 10 years, and monthly contribution 0. Projected balance is 18,193.97, contributed principal is 10,000, and projected gain is 8,193.97.

Understanding the result

Compare the output with the investment calculator worked example using exactly the same inputs. A different assumption or rounding convention can produce a different displayed result; the output does not establish personal or professional suitability.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The annual percentage is a nominal rate compounded monthly. Returns are not guaranteed. Taxes, fees, inflation, and market volatility are excluded.
  • The worked example demonstrates the stated assumptions, not a recommendation about your personal circumstances.
