Calculator guide

Generate a password in your browser using random values from the Web Crypto API. Choose a length and check that the resulting characters satisfy the destination site’s password policy.

Formula or method

Generate a string using the selected length and permitted character sets. More length and a larger character set increase the possible combinations.

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose the password length and allowed character sets.
  2. Generate locally and use a password manager; do not reuse passwords or enter existing passwords here.

Worked example

A 12-character string drawn from 62 possible characters has 62^12 possible combinations before any generator-specific restrictions.

Understanding the result

The output is a character string, not a password-strength score. It is not saved to a server by this tool. Use a unique password for each account and store it in a trusted password manager.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Requested lengths are clamped to 8–128 characters; a blank or nonnumeric length falls back to 16.
  • The character set does not guarantee every required character class appears in each generated password.
  • Random integers are mapped to characters using a remainder operation; do not claim perfectly uniform character selection or a certified entropy score.

Frequently asked questions

What password lengths are supported?

The generator uses whole-character lengths from 8 to 128 and defaults to 16 for blank or nonnumeric input.

Does every password contain a symbol and a digit?

No. Characters come from the configured set, but the generator does not enforce one character from every class. Check the destination site’s rules.

Where should I store the result?

Use a trusted password manager. Avoid sharing it, reusing it for another account, or placing it in a public document.
