Calculator guide
Choose one entry from a comma- or newline-separated list for a classroom activity, a game, or an everyday decision. Check the list before drawing: repeated labels are separate entries.
Formula or method
Trim each entry, discard empty entries, and select index floor(Math.random() × number of entries). The selected entry remains in the list for the next draw.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the choices separated by commas or new lines.
- Remove accidental duplicate entries and check that every intended choice is included.
- Press Spin the wheel or Generate result. Edit the list yourself if you want to remove a winner before the next draw.
Worked example
With Red, Blue, and Green entered once each, one draw selects one of three entries. If Red is entered twice and Blue once, two of the three entry positions contain Red; repeated labels affect selection frequency.
Understanding the result
The result is a selected label, not a numeric measurement. Draws do not remove earlier winners, so the same label can appear on consecutive draws. This implementation displays a chosen entry; it does not simulate physical wheel motion.
Limitations and assumptions
- Duplicate labels act as additional entries rather than being deduplicated.
- Draws are with replacement; remove a winner manually to draw without replacement.
- Math.random is not cryptographically secure. Do not use this picker for regulated lotteries, audited prize draws, or consequential decisions.
Frequently asked questions
Can the same choice win twice?
Yes. A selected entry stays in the list, so it can be selected on the next draw.
What happens if I repeat a choice?
Every nonempty entry has its own position. Repeating a label gives that label more entry positions.
Is this suitable for an official raffle?
No. The tool is an informal browser-based picker, not a certified, auditable raffle or gambling system.
