Calculator guide
Estimate paycheck net pay after the entered income-tax rate, payroll-tax rate, and other deductions.
Formula or method
Taxes withheld = gross pay × (income-tax rate + payroll-tax rate); take-home = gross pay − taxes withheld − other deductions.
How to use this calculator
- Enter gross pay for one paycheck.
- Enter estimated income-tax and payroll-tax percentages.
- Enter other deductions and review withholding, net pay, and effective deduction rate.
Worked example
A $3,000 paycheck with 18% income tax, 7.65% payroll tax, and $100 deductions yields $769.50 withheld and $2,130.50 take-home pay.
Understanding the result
The result is a transparent percentage model, not a tax return calculation. Actual withholding depends on pay frequency, forms, benefits, and jurisdiction.
Limitations and assumptions
- Does not calculate brackets, credits, filing status, state/local tax, pre-tax benefits, or garnishments.
- The payroll-tax field is user-entered and may not represent every statutory deduction.
Frequently asked questions
Is take-home pay the same as after-tax income?
Not always; paycheck withholding and final tax liability can differ.
Should benefits be included in other deductions?
Include the per-paycheck amount if you want the estimate to reflect it.
Can I use this for self-employment?
Not reliably; self-employment taxes and estimated payments need a different model.
