Calculator guide
Look up the dimensions and sheet area for ISO A0–A5, US Letter, Legal or Tabloid. Choose millimeters or inches; the available size and output-unit selectors each list these specific options.
Formula or method
Inches = millimeters ÷ 25.4. Sheet area = displayed width × displayed height. The result reports dimensions and area; it does not calculate an aspect ratio.
How to use this calculator
- Select Paper size: A0, A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, Letter, Legal or Tabloid.
- Select Output unit: millimeters (mm) or inches (in).
- Read Dimensions as width × height and Sheet area as width multiplied by height in the selected unit squared.
Worked example
For A4 in inches, 210 ÷ 25.4 = 8.26771654 and 297 ÷ 25.4 = 11.69291339, so the dimensions are 8.26771654 × 11.69291339 in. In millimeters, its sheet area is 210 × 297 = 62,370 mm². US Letter is 215.9 × 279.4 mm (8.5 × 11 in), not A4.
Understanding the result
The supported dimensions in millimeters (width × height) are: A0 841 × 1189; A1 594 × 841; A2 420 × 594; A3 297 × 420; A4 210 × 297; A5 148 × 210; Letter 215.9 × 279.4; Legal 215.9 × 355.6; Tabloid 279.4 × 431.8. The output’s second row is sheet area, not aspect ratio.
Limitations and assumptions
- The selector includes only A0–A5, Letter, Legal and Tabloid, with mm or in output. It has no custom dimensions or orientation control.
- Sheet area is the full sheet area, not printable area. Margins, printer scaling, bleed, image resolution and image resampling are not modeled.
- The listed US customary choices are Letter, Legal and Tabloid; other ANSI, architectural and envelope sizes are not offered.
Frequently asked questions
Does “Sheet area” mean aspect ratio?
No. It is width multiplied by height in square millimeters or square inches. The dimensions are displayed separately.
Is Letter the same as A4?
No. Letter is 8.5 × 11 in; A4 is 210 × 297 mm (about 8.27 × 11.69 in).
Does this show the area my printer can print?
No. It shows the whole sheet dimensions and area, not margins or a printer-specific printable region.
